Job Title: Visual Communication Specialist

Department/Location: USAID LAC FO (front office)

Type: Consultancy / 6 months for 10 hours per week

Classification: Consultant

Overview:

USAID’s Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) helps to make the U.S. and the Western Hemisphere more peaceful, secure, and prosperous by strengthening the capacity of the governments and private sector entities. Throughout the region, USAID has 14 field offices, 3 regional programs, and Washington-based programs focusing on Cuba and Venezuela.

LAC requires a Visual Communications Specialist to join the Bureau on a part-time basis to work with the LAC Public Affairs Specialist as well as the Senior Outreach and Communications Specialists on the LAC Communications team to create and design various materials for digital and print.

The LAC Communications team is responsible for producing innovative and compelling content that broadly informs the public about the good work the LAC Bureau does around the world and positions the Bureau as a go-to source for information. He/She will coordinate closely with the LAC Bureau‘s key point of contact on assigned communications/media matters. The incumbent will work remotely.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates closely with USAID communications teams to create and design various materials for digital and print, including selecting colors, fonts, images, and layouts.
  • Enhances communications products through visualizing and creating graphics including illustrations, presentations, layouts and photos.
  • Create visualizations that convey accurate messaging.
  • Provides guidance and support on visualizations for public facing content for USAID website and social media.
  • Drafts and edits public documents and other products (including social media) aimed at key stakeholders such as Congress, think tanks, media outlets, among others.
  • Provides digital design support for USAID/LAC events.
  • Advise best practices and optimizations throughout design projects.
  • Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner with a quality product.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience with website content management, website and media outlets.
  • Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print, and web.
  • Experience with both print and digital media.
  • Portfolio of work with a wide range of creative projects.

Education: Bachelor's Degree

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Time management and organizational skills

Working Environment: Work is typically performed in an office environment. Currently the company is allowing for remote work due to COVID 19 in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area. This can be updated by the company.

Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel: International travel may be required and may include travel to fragile and/or conflict-prone zones.

Work Authorization: Candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S.
